Overview
- INS Mangrol was commissioned on Monday, October 12, 2026, at Naval Dockyard Mumbai in a ceremony led by Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan.
- The ship was built by Cochin Shipyard Limited in Kochi with more than 80 percent indigenous content under the Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.
- Mangrol carries an Abhay hull‑mounted sonar, lightweight torpedoes, an indigenous anti‑submarine rocket launcher and the Maareech torpedo decoy system for detecting and defeating submarine threats.
- Powered by three diesel engines with waterjet propulsion, the craft is designed for high manoeuvrability in shallow waters and can perform underwater surveillance, low‑intensity maritime operations and mine‑warfare tasks.
- As the third vessel after Mahe and Malvan in the ASW‑SWC series, Mangrol widens coastal coverage and may boost port and harbour protection while demonstrating India’s growing ability to design and integrate naval systems domestically.
