Indian MBBS Student Arrested for Transferring ₹8 Lakh in Crypto to Chinese Gang

The 23-year-old allegedly converted cyber fraud proceeds into cryptocurrency and transferred them to a Chinese gang via Binance and QR codes.

Vikram Vishnoi, a third-year MBBS student from Maharashtra, was arrested in Indore for his alleged role in a cyber fraud scheme involving cryptocurrency transfers to a Chinese gang.
Police connected Vishnoi to the defrauding of a software engineer in Indore, who was coerced into paying ₹1.35 lakh under false threats of legal trouble.
Vishnoi reportedly used the Binance cryptocurrency exchange to convert fraudulently obtained funds into cryptocurrency and transferred ₹8 lakh to a Chinese crypto wallet via QR codes.
The accused communicated with the Chinese gang through a Telegram group and a chatbot with translation capabilities, receiving commissions for facilitating transactions.
Authorities are investigating the gang’s role in broader cyber crimes and have contacted Telegram and Binance for further information regarding the transactions.
