Overview

  • On June 14, Coast Guard and Navy tugs moved MV Wan Hai 503 about 40 nautical miles off Kerala to maintain a safe distance from the shoreline.
  • A Sea King helicopter inserted a salvage team on June 13, enabling connection of a 600-metre tow rope between Coast Guard ships and the tug Offshore Warrior.
  • Firefighting crews have largely contained the blaze and deployed 4,000 kg of dry chemical powder alongside boundary cooling to tackle smoldering hotspots.
  • Of the 22 crew members, 18 were rescued by coordinated Coast Guard, Navy and Air Force operations, while four remain unaccounted for.
  • The ship was carrying roughly 120,000 tonnes of fuel and hundreds of containers including hazardous cargo, prompting sustained efforts to prevent marine pollution.
