Indian Forces Foil Terror Infiltration, Launch Search Operations in Poonch and Rajouri

Troops have sealed off multiple villages along the Line of Control following reports of suspicious militant movement

  • Security forces from the Indian Army’s Rashtriya Rifles, the CRPF and local police began joint search operations at around a dozen sites in Surankote and Mendhar
  • Cordon-and-search missions were carried out in villages including Sari, Ustan, Pathankhor, Chandimarh and Kaagwali in Surankote and Limba, Ucchad and Kallar-Gursai in Mendhar
  • In Rajouri’s Keri sector, troops intercepted three to four suspected militants at the LoC, prompting heavy gunfire and the deployment of additional reinforcements
  • Army sources reported one militant was killed and another injured during the attempted infiltration in Rajouri
  • Officials say the intensified operations target Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad cells to secure the region ahead of the Amarnath Yatra
