Indian Exchanges Closed for Ganesh Chaturthi Trading Holiday

The one-day shutdown pauses equity and major derivative trading and forces investors to revise settlement and expiry plans before markets reopen.

Overview

  • The National Stock Exchange and Bombay Stock Exchange are closed on Monday, September 14, 2026, for Ganesh Chaturthi and will reopen for normal equity trading on Tuesday, September 15.
  • Equity and equity-derivative sessions are suspended for the full day and several other segments including currency derivatives, NDS-RST and tri-party repo are also listed as closed on the exchange calendars.
  • Commodity bourses follow a different timetable so the Multi Commodity Exchange will be shut for the morning and will reopen for an evening session from 5:00 PM on the same day.
  • The trading holiday affects settlement and expiry calculations, so investors and brokers should adjust orders, reconfirm clearing timelines and monitor global cues such as crude oil and the US Fed decision over the break.
  • Exchanges have published the rest of the 2026 holiday calendar and confirmed a special Diwali Muhurat session on November 8 with timings to be announced, leaving five regular market holidays remaining this year.
