Overview

  • The 76.7-metre-long, eight-metre-wide and four-to-six-metre-deep berth can accommodate all current Coast Guard vessels stationed at Vizhinjam.
  • Situated ten nautical miles from major international shipping lanes and adjacent to the Vizhinjam International Transshipment Deepwater Port, it strengthens India’s maritime security on the southwestern coast.
  • Construction began in September 2019, was delayed by a half-submerged tug and resumed in April 2024 under the Kerala Harbour Engineering Department with RTF Infra Pvt Ltd.
  • The new jetty will accelerate deployment for maritime surveillance, search and rescue, anti-smuggling patrols and fisheries protection.
  • Director General Paramesh Sivamani inaugurated the facility on June 7 in a ceremony attended by Inspector General Bhisham Sharma and representatives from Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd, the Kerala Maritime Board, port authorities, the Indian Army and other agencies.
