Indian Coast Guard Marks Hull-Construction Milestones on FPV and ACV Programs

The milestones underscore an Aatmanirbhar push for high local content with advanced systems planned.

Overview

  • Mazagon Dock in Mumbai held the keel laying for the second Fast Patrol Vessel and plate cutting for the fifth under the 14-ship FPV project.
  • Chowgule’s Rassaim yard in Goa conducted girder laying for the second and third Air Cushion Vehicles for the Coast Guard.
  • The FPV contract with MDL was signed on January 24, 2024 with a 60% indigenous content requirement and a project value of Rs 1,070.47 crore, according to MDL.
  • Each FPV will use Indian-made Triveni gearboxes and MJP India water jets, with planned AI-based predictive maintenance and multipurpose drones.
  • The ACVs are based on a Griffon Hoverwork design with over 50% local content, and officials say both programs will strengthen ICG reach in the Indian Ocean Region.
