Overview
- On July 10 at 11:57 AM MRCC Port Blair received a distress alert from the US Consulate in Chennai for Sea Angel, whose sail failed and propeller was fouled 52 nautical miles southeast of Indira Point.
- ICG Ship Rajveer was dispatched at 2 PM, reached the yacht by 5:30 PM, and established towing lines by 6:50 PM despite rough sea conditions.
- The yacht arrived at Campbell Bay harbour at 8 AM on July 11, and both crew members, one American and one Turkish national, were confirmed safe and in good health.
- The operation activated International Safety Net protocols to alert merchant vessels and coordinate multinational assistance in the Bay of Bengal.
- The Coast Guard is also probing last month’s rescue of three Sri Lankan nationals abandoned on a sandbar near Adam’s Bridge.
