Indian Cities Tackle Traffic Violations and Drunk Driving on New Year’s Eve

Police across Mumbai, Delhi, and other cities conducted special drives, issuing thousands of fines and prosecuting hundreds for drunk driving to ensure public safety.

  • Mumbai Traffic Police issued 17,800 e-challans, penalized 333 drunk drivers, and collected ₹89 lakh in fines during New Year's Eve celebrations.
  • Delhi Police prosecuted 558 motorists for drunk driving, a 34% increase from last year, and issued over 4,500 challans for various traffic violations.
  • Thane Traffic Police booked 314 drunk drivers on New Year’s Eve, contributing to a total of 3,840 such cases reported in 2024 across the district.
  • Navi Mumbai Police recorded 266 drunk driving cases and 2,357 other traffic violations, with maximum offenders caught in Vashi and Turbhe.
  • In Pune, 65 motorists were penalized for drunk driving, while other cities like Morena and Mira Bhayandar also reported stringent actions against traffic violations.
