Indian Chemistry Olympiad Team Welcomed Home After Winning Two Gold and Two Silver Medals

HBCSE mentors credited rigorous preparation backed by multiple government agencies for the team’s sixth-place finish

Overview

  • The four-member delegation was honoured at a homecoming event in Mumbai hosted by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education
  • Devesh Pankaj Bhaiya of Jalgaon and Sandeep Kuchi of Hyderabad secured gold medals, while Debadatta Priyadarshi of Bhubaneswar and Ujjwal Kesari of New Delhi earned silver
  • Their combined haul placed India sixth among 90 countries at the 57th International Chemistry Olympiad in Dubai, which featured 354 student participants
  • Team selection and preparation were organised by HBCSE under TIFR through national Olympiad exams, orientation camps and pre-departure workshops
  • Mentors Prof Ankush Gupta, Prof Seema Gupta, Dr Neeraja Dashaputre and Dr Amrit Mitra guided the students, supported by funding and policy backing from the National Steering Committee, DAE, DST, DOS and the Ministry of Education
