Indian Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla to Pilot Axiom Mission 4 to ISS
The mission will mark the first time an ISRO astronaut visits the ISS and includes plans to showcase Indian culture and yoga in space.
- Shubhanshu Shukla, an Indian Air Force officer and ISRO astronaut, will serve as the pilot for Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4), launching no earlier than spring 2025.
- The Ax-4 mission will be carried out aboard a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft and will include a 14-day stay aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
- Shukla plans to demonstrate yoga poses in microgravity and carry items representing India's diverse cultural heritage to the ISS.
- The mission's crew includes former NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson as commander and astronauts from Poland and Hungary, making it a historic international collaboration.
- Shukla's participation in Ax-4 will provide valuable preparation for his role in India's first human spaceflight mission, Gaganyaan, scheduled for later in 2025.
