Indian Army Secures IPR for New Digital-Print Combat Coat

The registration grants exclusive ownership over the coat’s design, including its camouflage pattern, under Indian design and patent statutes.

Overview

  • The design is registered with the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks in Kolkata under Application No. 449667-001, filed 27 February 2025 and published 7 October 2025.
  • Exclusive rights cover both the garment’s design and its digital camouflage pattern, blocking unauthorised manufacturing, reproduction or commercial use.
  • Legal remedies include injunctions and claims for damages under the Designs Act, 2000, the Designs Rules, 2001 and the Patents Act, 1970.
  • The coat was designed by NIFT, New Delhi, as a consultancy project overseen by the Army Design Bureau.
  • The three-layer system pairs a durable digitally printed outer coat with an insulated mid-layer and a thermal base layer, supporting the Army’s indigenisation drive within its Decade of Transformation.
