Overview
- An 18-member mountaineering team from Eastern Command reached the 7,042-metre peak using the difficult southern approach.
- The mission was flagged off on November 3 from a forward base by the Gajraj Corps commander and later flagged in by Lt Gen R. C. Tiwari.
- Officials described the climb as the first recorded successful ascent of a summit long regarded as unclimbed in the Kameng Himalayas.
- The team faced rarefied air, severe sub-zero temperatures, treacherous icy ridgelines, deep crevasses and near-vertical ice walls during the ascent.
- Defence spokesperson Lt Col Athul Sreedharan announced the achievement and noted a concurrent Army blood donation camp at General Hospital, Aalo in West Siang.
