Overview
- Three AH-64E Apaches touched down at Hindon Airbase on July 22 aboard an AN-124 transport plane and are undergoing acceptance trials.
- The Rs 5,691 crore deal for six attack helicopters was inked in 2020 with initial deliveries slated for mid-2024.
- These Apaches represent the Army Aviation Corps’ first operation of the platform alongside the IAF’s existing fleet of 22 choppers.
- Each AH-64E is equipped with Hellfire missiles, a 30 mm chain gun, Longbow radar, rocket pods and night-vision systems for precision strikes.
- The remaining three helicopters are due to arrive by the end of 2025, completing the six-aircraft squadron.
