Indian Army Opens Agnishodh Research Cell at IIT Madras

It brings academic innovation into military operations to accelerate technological modernization.

Overview

  • General Upendra Dwivedi inaugurated the new research cell during his two-day visit to Chennai as part of the Army chief’s Five Pillars transformation agenda.
  • Agnishodh will operate within the IIT Madras Research Park alongside the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Development Centre and Pravartak Technologies Foundation.
  • The cell is tasked with translating lab-scale research into battlefield applications under the Modernisation and Technology Infusion pillar.
  • It will offer training in emerging fields including additive manufacturing, cybersecurity, quantum computing, wireless communications and unmanned aerial systems.
  • In his address, Gen Dwivedi praised the 88-hour Operation Sindoor as a landmark, intelligence-driven campaign and emphasized preparing for fifth-generation conflicts.
