Overview

  • The 28-member army team summited the 22,749-foot Mount Shahi Kangri and the 22,543-foot Mount Silver Peak on June 18
  • The climb honored soldiers killed in the 2020 Galwan conflict and showcased participants’ exceptional icecraft and rockcraft skills
  • Both peaks lie southwest of the Depsang Plains and remain snowbound year-round, posing severe terrain and climatic challenges
  • By approaching from a southeasterly direction, the team reduced the overall distance and navigated treacherous crevasses, cornices and glaciers
  • The expedition also seeks to attract civil mountaineering teams to promote high-altitude adventure tourism in Ladakh
