Indian Army Fast-Tracks Procurement of Indigenous ‘Saksham’ Counter-Drone Grid

The AI-enabled C2 system will fuse sensors on the Army Data Network to create a real-time picture of the air littoral.

Overview

  • The project has been cleared under the Fast Track Procurement route with rollout to all field formations targeted within a year.
  • Saksham will deliver a Recognised UAS Picture by merging sensor feeds and counter-drone systems, adding AI-driven analysis, automated decision support, and 3D visualisation.
  • The grid will integrate inputs from the Akashteer system and coordinate soft- and hard-kill assets to counter threats in airspace up to 3,000 metres.
  • Developed with Bharat Electronics Limited, the fully indigenous platform advances the Army’s Atmanirbhar modernization drive.
  • Procurement follows lessons from Operation Sindoor, when hostile UAS activity—reported as nearly 400 drones from Pakistan—prompted a shift from the Tactical Battle Area to the broader Tactical Battlefield Space.
