Overview
- About 15 battalions have been raised so far, with the Army envisioning a total of 25 units.
- Each battalion fields roughly 250 personnel drawn from infantry, artillery, air defence and key support branches.
- The formations are intended for rapid reaction in sensitive border areas, primarily along the China and Pakistan frontiers.
- Equipment sets include indigenous LDMA logistics drones, TRINETRA UAVs, robotics, precision-targeting systems and low-signature paramotors.
- The Army publicly showcased the units in a 92-second video on January 11, and their first Republic Day parade participation is planned.
