Indian Army Caps 2025 With Precision Tests, New Formations and Completed Apache Induction

A year-end assessment casts Operation Sindoor as the catalyst for deterrence-focused reform.

Overview

  • Operation Sindoor from May 7–10 destroyed nine terrorist camps, foiled four nights of Pakistani drone attempts and led to a May 10 ceasefire understanding after the Pakistani DGMO reached out.
  • Long-range fires advanced with a Dec. 1 BrahMos combat launch validating stability and accuracy and a Dec. 29 Pinaka Long-Range Guided Rocket test at a reported ~120 km after two Pinaka regiments were operationalised on June 24.
  • The Army Aviation Corps completed induction of six AH-64E Apache attack helicopters, with three inducted in July and the remaining three delivered in December.
  • New battlefield organisations were fielded, with Bhairav Battalions and Ashni Platoons demonstrated on Oct. 24 in Rajasthan and reported plans to scale to 25 Bhairav units and infantry drone platoons.
  • The Army reported 91% ammunition indigenisation, large-scale UAS induction of about 3,000 RPAs plus ~150 tethered, swarm, logistics and loitering drones, and DAC approvals focused on unmanned, counter‑UAS and precision fires.
