Indian Army Begins Induction of Indigenous ‘Saksham’ Counter-UAS Grid

Fast-track fielding aims to give commanders a real-time drone threat picture across the Air Littoral following vulnerabilities seen in Operation Sindoor.

Overview

  • Saksham is a modular command-and-control system that operates on the Army Data Network to generate a recognised UAS picture in real time.
  • It is designed to secure the Tactical Battlefield Space, including the Air Littoral up to 3,000 metres, by detecting, tracking, identifying and neutralising hostile drones.
  • The grid integrates CUAS sensors and soft- and hard-kill effectors, provides automated decision support and 3D visualisation, and uses AI for predictive analysis.
  • Approved under the Fast Track Procurement route, the system is slated for rollout across field formations within the next year, according to the Army.
  • Developed with Bharat Electronics Limited in Ghaziabad, the fully indigenous system links with the Akashteer air defence network and aligns with the Army’s Decade of Transformation.
