Indian Army Activates Vehicle-Portable 3D Concrete Printer for Forward Bunkers in Sikkim

Live ballistic trials validated printed bunkers for rapid, terrain-specific construction in high-altitude posts.

Overview

  • The Trishakti Corps has operationalised on-site 3D concrete printing in Sikkim and adjoining forward areas, according to an Army statement on December 6.
  • Developed with IIT-Hyderabad under Project PRABAL, the indigenous system mounts on a vehicle and features a robotic arm, circular mixer, piston pump and on-board generator.
  • The capability is designed for swift construction of bunkers, sentry posts and other protective works, cutting timelines and troop effort in rugged terrain.
  • The Army cites benefits including customised designs, enhanced blast and ballistic resistance, higher compressive strength, better quality control and efficient use of local materials.
  • Separately, a five-day Drone Technology Bootcamp in Manipur’s Chandel district concluded on December 5, training 165 participants from multiple forces with IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and MeitY support.
