Overview
- Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol told Parliament that 5,706 flights—about 1 percent of 572,079 departures—were canceled for regulatory or geopolitical reasons in the first half of 2025.
- Cancellations were unevenly distributed across carriers, with IndiGo accounting for 3,274, the Air India Group 1,468, Alliance Air 499, SpiceJet 401 and Akasa Air 64.
- The ministry noted that airlines face extra operational costs from cancellations—including fuel charges, crew overtime, maintenance and airport fees—and are required to refund or compensate passengers.
- Domestic carriers carried 7.34 percent more passengers in January–June 2025 compared with the same period last year, signaling strong demand despite disruptions.
- Air India has launched 24 international routes since July 2023, suspended four for commercial reasons and will resume its Goa–London Gatwick service in the Winter 2025 schedule.
