IndiaAI Mission Tops 34,000 GPUs, Selects Four Startups for Indigenous AI Models

The expansion aims to power indigenous model development through subsidised compute with newly released datasets broadening AI access across India.

Overview

  • The IndiaAI compute portal now offers 34,333 GPUs after adding 15,916 units from seven empanelled providers at subsidised rates of ₹67 per hour.
  • Three startups—Soket AI, Gnani AI, and Gan AI—were chosen to develop large language models with 120 billion, 14 billion, and 70 billion parameters optimized for India’s linguistic diversity and sectoral applications.
  • These firms join Sarvam AI in building sovereign foundational models targeting defense, healthcare, education, real-time speech processing, and text-to-speech use cases.
  • The government has uploaded 367 datasets to the AI Kosh repository to support research and training of India-specific AI models.
  • IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw urged the startups to aim for top-five global positions and outlined upcoming hackathons and AI talent programmes to bolster the national AI ecosystem.
