India, Vietnam Coast Guards Agree to Expand Joint Initiatives at Sixth Hanoi Meeting

  • The sixth high-level meeting took place on August 20 in Hanoi under the 2015 Memorandum of Understanding on Coast Guard Cooperation.
  • Additional Director General Anand Prakash Badola of the Indian Coast Guard and Major General Vu Trung Kien, Vice Commandant of the Vietnam Coast Guard, co-chaired the talks.
  • Discussions prioritized maritime search and rescue, law enforcement, marine pollution response, and capacity building with a focus on curbing smuggling, trafficking, and illegal fishing.
  • Delegations reviewed recent ship visits and professional exchanges and agreed to pursue joint efforts to enhance interoperability, including coordinated search-and-rescue and joint pollution-response mechanisms.
  • Both sides reaffirmed regular institutional interactions, training, exchange of best practices, and ship visits to strengthen trust, operational synergy, and regional maritime security and environmental protection.
