India Vice-Presidential Race Set for Direct Contest After Scrutiny

Scrutiny cleared both nominees' papers, confirming the ballot set for September 9.

Overview

  • All four sets of nomination papers for NDA nominee C P Radhakrishnan and joint opposition candidate B. Sudershan Reddy were declared valid by the returning officer.
  • The election process opened on August 7, nominations closed on August 21, and scrutiny was conducted on August 22.
  • A total of 68 nomination papers were filed by 46 candidates during the nomination window.
  • Officials summarily rejected 28 papers under section 5B(4) of the Presidential and Vice-Presidential Elections Act, and rejected another 40 after scrutiny under sections 5B(1)(b) and 5C.
  • The accepted papers were listed as Serial Nos. 26–29 for Radhakrishnan and 41–44 for Reddy.
