India To Launch DMIL, Plan RRTS Expansion, Fast-Track Delhi TOD Overhaul

The announcements create tools to export DMRC expertise, with implementation pending cabinet and planning approvals.

Overview

  • MoHUA announced Delhi Metro International Limited as a DMRC subsidiary to act as the nodal arm for consultancy, construction, turnkey, management and O&M projects in India and abroad.
  • A second DMRC offshoot will handle nationwide MRTS planning and coordination, alongside a new Delhi Metro Rail Academy and a Centre of Excellence focused on skills, safety and cybersecurity.
  • The government is preparing a policy to extend the Namo Bharat/RRTS model beyond the NCR, naming Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru, with a cabinet note ready and Delhi–Bawal and DelhiKarnal corridors indicated to start soon.
  • Delhi’s revamped transit-oriented development policy is slated within a month to enable direct station links via skywalks or subways and permit higher-rise development within roughly 500–800 metres of corridors.
  • The PM e-Bus Sewa plan was reiterated for 10,000 electric buses in smaller cities, including 100 for Gurugram, alongside work on a national first–last mile connectivity framework and options such as pod taxis or ropeways.
