India to Export 150 Advanced Locomotives to Guinea, PM Modi to Flag Off First Unit

Overview

  • The first locomotive will be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 20 from Bihar’s Marhowrah factory, launching shipments of 37 units in the current financial year.
  • India will deliver 150 Evolution Series ES43ACmi locomotives valued at over ₹3,000 crore to Guinea over three years, with 82 units next year and 31 in the third year.
  • The 4,500 HP locomotives include AC propulsion, regenerative braking, microprocessor-based controls, modular architecture, fire detection systems and ergonomic cabs with refrigerators, microwaves and waterless toilets.
  • Each locomotive is fitted with a Distributed Power Wireless Control System to synchronize multiple units hauling up to 100-wagon ore trains at maximum permissible speed.
  • Built under a public-private partnership between Indian Railways and Wabtec, the Marhowrah plant employs 285 people directly and 1,215 indirectly and supports multiple gauge tracks for global exports.
