The validated trial is being positioned as an early step toward the Mission Sudarshan Chakra national shield planned for 2035.

Overview

  • DRDO carried out the maiden integrated flight test of the IADWS off Odisha at around 12:30 pm on August 23, with official confirmation released the next day.
  • IADWS combines indigenous QRSAM interceptors, VSHORADS missiles and a high-power laser directed-energy weapon under a unified architecture.
  • Two high-speed fixed‑wing UAVs and a multi‑copter drone were engaged simultaneously and destroyed at varying ranges and altitudes.
  • A Centralised Command and Control Centre developed by DRDL coordinated sensors and effectors, with performance verified by instruments at the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, in the presence of DRDO and Armed Forces observers.
  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and DRDO chief Samir V. Kamat hailed the success, and a Chinese military expert described the laser capability as a significant advancement.
