Overview

• The Cabinet Committee on Security, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, decided to suspend the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty until Pakistan ceases support for cross-border terrorism.
• India has closed the Attari-Wagah border crossing effective immediately, with Pakistani nationals allowed to return through it only until May 1, 2025.
• Pakistani nationals under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme have been ordered to leave India within 48 hours, and all future entries under this scheme are barred.
• India has expelled Pakistan’s military attachés and announced the withdrawal of its own military advisors from Islamabad, reducing both High Commissions' staff to 30 by May 1.
• The measures come after a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, claimed 26 lives, with The Resistance Front, linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, taking responsibility.
