India Steps Up Push for Cine Hub Integration to Expand Regional Film Infrastructure

New directives instruct states to integrate with the GIS-enabled portal to accelerate local cinema growth alongside live-entertainment projects.

Overview

  • The Information and Broadcasting Ministry convened a high-level conference on August 5 to press remaining states and union territories to fully integrate with the India Cine Hub portal.
  • Since going live on June 28, 2024, India Cine Hub has fully onboarded seven states and two union territories and enrolled 21 more states along with six UTs via a common application form.
  • The portal’s GIS-enabled mapping and differentiated workflows for filming, non-filming, and incentives now enable targeted identification of low-screen-density areas for infrastructure development.
  • Grassroots cinema initiatives were highlighted, including low-cost, modular and mobile theatres designed to empower women and local communities in underserved districts.
  • Officials outlined plans to incorporate live-entertainment venues into the portal’s framework by repurposing existing sports and cultural sites and offering tax and land policy incentives.
