  • Debutant Pawan Bartwal opened India’s campaign with a 3–2 split-decision over Brazil’s Paris Olympian Michael Douglas da Silva Trindade in the men’s 55kg division.
  • Sakshi Chaudhary advanced in the women’s 54kg after a referee stoppage win over Ukraine’s Viktoriia Shkeul, moving into the Round of 16.
  • The draw handed byes to multiple Indians, including top seed Lovlina Borgohain (75kg), No.3 seed Hitesh Gulia (70kg) and No.6 seed Abhinash Jamwal (65kg), while Nikhat Zareen (51kg) opens against the USA’s Jennifer Lozana.
  • Overall, 10 Indian boxers received first-round byes as the championships host 544 boxers from 68 nations across 20 weight categories at Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena from September 4–14.
  • Led by returning champions Lovlina and Nikhat, India fields a new-look men’s group with several debutants and arrives with momentum from 17 medals at the 2025 World Boxing Cups in Brazil and Kazakhstan.
