Overview
- Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu told the India Sustainable Aviation Fuel Summit that a national SAF policy will be released soon.
- India reaffirmed SAF blending targets of 1% in 2027, 2% in 2028 and 5% in 2030 for international flights, with officials saying the fuel can cut lifecycle emissions by up to 80%.
- Officials highlighted more than 750 million tonnes of available biomass and 213 million tonnes of surplus agricultural residue, projecting $5–7 billion in annual crude import savings and over one million green jobs.
- The ministry cited needs of about 30 million litres for the 1% target in 2027 and 62 million litres for 2028, with domestic oil firms reporting 70 million litres in annual SAF capacity.
