India Showcases Coast Guard Expertise at Rome Summit, Announces Intent to Bid for 2027 Presidency

  • Opening statements by Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba emphasized cooperation on Marine Pollution Response, Maritime Search and Rescue, and law enforcement.
  • Co-chaired by Italy and Japan, the summit convened representatives from 115 countries and organisations to discuss technology adoption, training, and countering transnational maritime crime.
  • India stated it intends to bid to preside over and host the 5th CGGS in 2027 in India, a step that remains subject to formal selection.
