India Scores Record 111 Medals at Asian Para Games, Including 29 Golds

  • India's para-athletes delivered a record-breaking performance at the Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China, securing 111 medals, which is 39 more than the previous 2018 edition.
  • The successful medal haul included three world records and marked India's first-ever top-5 finish at the Games ranking fifth on the medals table.
  • Standout athletes include 16-year-old Sheetal Devi, the only current female international archer to shoot with her feet, who won gold in the compound individual open event and in the compound mixed team event, and a silver in the women's compound doubles.
  • Gold medal winners also include Paralympics champions Pramod Bhagat, who retained his gold in men's singles SL3 category badminton, and Sumit Antil, who broke his own world record in the javelin throw F64 event.
  • India broke the record in the number of disciplines they competed in and won medals in, participating in 17 disciplines and returning with medals in 12. They brought a historic, record-breaking contingent of 303 athletes to the 2022 Para Asian Games.
