India Says Pakistan Lost Over 100 Troops and 12 Aircraft in Operation Sindoor, Warns of 'Deadlier' Response

Indian commanders cast the May operation as calibrated retaliation, signaling a tougher response to any repeat attacks.

Overview

  • DGMO Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai said Pakistan suffered more than 100 casualties along the Line of Control, an inference drawn from its August 14 list of posthumous military awards.
  • He asserted that at least 12 Pakistani aircraft were destroyed, including a C-130, an AEW&C platform and four to five fighter jets, as Indian Air Force strikes damaged 11 air bases, hangars and radars on May 9–10.
  • Ghai described Pakistani drone attempts as a “dismal failure” and said the Navy was action-ready in the Arabian Sea as part of a tri-service posture during the May 7–10 hostilities, which began with strikes on nine terror sites.
  • Western Command chief Lt Gen Manoj Katiyar warned that any new Pahalgam-style attack would prompt a “deadlier” Operation Sindoor 2.0, emphasizing that Indian forces remain prepared along the LoC.
  • Officials also said the three Pahalgam perpetrators were tracked and killed after a 96-day hunt and highlighted a doctrinal shift that treats terror attacks as acts of war, with these casualty and equipment figures presented as Indian assessments not independently verified.
