India Says Airline, Not Immigration, Denied Nepali Traveler’s Berlin Connection

The Home Ministry says the airline blocked boarding over visa validity during the passenger's Delhi transit.

Overview

  • In a statement issued on November 1, the Ministry of Home Affairs said Indian immigration had no role in the incident at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.
  • The passenger, identified as Shambhavi Adhikari, arrived from Kathmandu on an Air India flight and was stopped while boarding a Qatar Airways connection to Berlin.
  • According to the MHA, the airline denied boarding after assessing the traveler’s visa validity under destination-country requirements.
  • The passenger was flown back to Kathmandu, then rescheduled her plans and later traveled to Berlin via an alternate route.
  • The ministry said international transit passengers do not approach Indian immigration, rejected portrayals of discrimination, and reaffirmed India’s goodwill toward Nepal.
