Overview

  • The five-year agreements commit Saudi state-owned Ma’aden to deliver 3.1 million metric tonnes of diammonium phosphate annually starting FY 2025-26, with a mutual option to extend through 2035.
  • Indian Potash Limited, KRIBHCO, Coromandel Fertilisers and Chemicals Co. and Chambal Fertilizers and Chemicals Ltd. each signed pacts under the supervision of Union Minister JP Nadda and senior Saudi officials.
  • A binational ministerial team led by India’s fertiliser secretary and the Saudi vice minister for mining affairs will chart long-term collaboration in the fertiliser sector.
  • Discussions will now cover supplies of urea, NPKS formulations, reciprocal investments and joint research to develop custom fertilisers for Indian agriculture.
  • The deals bolster India’s drive to diversify away from Chinese exports after recent curbs and exploit Saudi shipping routes via eastern ports unaffected by Red Sea tensions.
