Overview
- The Union Health Ministry approved a multidimensional pricing framework that links reimbursements to hospital accreditation, facility type, city tier and ward entitlement.
- Non-accredited hospitals will receive 15% lower rates, super-specialty hospitals get 15% higher, Y-category cities are 10% lower than X and Z-category cities 20% lower, with general and private wards set at −5% and +5% respectively.
- Hospitals must confirm acceptance by October 13 or lose empanelment, and they are required to sign updated Memorandums of Agreement within 90 days as existing agreements expire on that date.
- The overhaul covers nearly 2,000 procedures and retains uniform national pricing for categories such as radiotherapy, investigations and minor day-care treatments across about 80 CGHS cities.
- Analysts estimate an average 25–30% uplift in CGHS rates, and shares of major hospital chains rose roughly 2–6% today on expectations of improved revenues and cashless access.
