India Reports 2025 Gains in LPG Access, Gas Grid and EV Charging

Ministry data highlights expansion alongside slower progress in household switching.

Overview

  • PMUY beneficiaries reached 10.35 crore as of December 1, 2025, with approval for 25 lakh additional LPG connections in FY26 and simplified eligibility via a single deprivation declaration.
  • Average household LPG refills rose to 4.47 in FY25 and a pro‑rated 4.85 in FY26, still below full fuel‑switching levels, supported by a targeted ₹300 subsidy per 14.2 kg cylinder for up to nine refills.
  • Subsidy targeting and transparency advanced through Aadhaar biometrics covering 71% of PMUY users and 62% of non‑PMUY consumers, alongside a nationwide mobile‑based authentication drive.
  • Natural gas infrastructure expanded to 25,429 km of operational pipelines with 10,459 km under construction, CGD now spans 307 areas with about 1.57 crore PNG homes and over 8,400 CNG stations, and a unified tariff covers roughly 90% of the grid.
  • E‑mobility and alternative fuels scaled up with 8,932 EV chargers under FAME‑II plus over 18,500 added by OMCs, 1,064 integrated energy stations operational, ethanol blending averaging 19.24%, and 172 exploration blocks awarded under new upstream reforms.
