India Reaffirms No Troops to Ukraine or Gaza Without UN Mandate

The reaffirmation came at a Delhi briefing for an October conclave of UN troop contributors.

Overview

  • Ministry official Vishwesh Negi said any deployment would occur only under a UN mandate with UN Security Council clearance under the UN Charter.
  • Negi added that authorization for such missions is highly unlikely given the Security Council’s composition.
  • Deputy Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Rakesh Kapoor stressed that India deploys only under the UN flag to ensure legitimacy.
  • India will host an Army Chiefs’ conclave of UN troop-contributing countries in New Delhi from October 14 to 16, with plans to showcase indigenous peacekeeping equipment.
  • The published invitation list names nearly 30 countries, and Pakistan and China were not invited.
