India Raises Wheat MSP to Rs 2,585 as Cabinet Sets 2026–27 Rabi Support Prices

The move follows CACP advice to set the support framework for the April–June 2026 procurement window.

Overview

  • Wheat MSP rises by Rs 160 per quintal to Rs 2,585, a 6.59% increase over last year’s Rs 2,425.
  • MSPs approved for six rabi crops: barley Rs 2,150, gram Rs 5,875, lentil Rs 7,000, rapeseed & mustard Rs 6,200, and safflower Rs 6,540.
  • Safflower sees the steepest absolute hike at Rs 600 per quintal, with other crops up by Rs 170–300.
  • The government targets procurement of about 29.7 million tonnes with estimated MSP payments of roughly Rs 84,263 crore to farmers.
  • Expected margins over all-India average cost are 109% for wheat, 93% for mustard, 89% for lentil, 59% for gram, 58% for barley, and 50% for safflower, as India pursues a 119 MT wheat output goal for 2025–26.
