India Raises LPG Output After ADNOC Shipments Went Uncollected

The increase aims to protect household supply and speeds a shift toward US term imports that could supply up to a fifth of next year’s LPG needs.

Overview

  • Refiners have lifted domestic LPG production to about 44,000 tonnes a day, roughly 20% above August levels, to meet higher household demand.
  • At least three ADNOC-contracted September cargoes—one for BPCL and two for Indian Oil—were not collected, putting short-term pressure on supplies.
  • ADNOC has said it will deliver its committed October volumes, including multiple cargoes for Indian Oil, BPCL and Hindustan Petroleum, to reassure buyers.
  • India is accelerating import diversification: US shipments now account for more than 20% of imports and state refiners are considering term purchases from the US that could cover about 20% of next year’s imports.
  • The near-term focus on households has led the government to cut the rural refill wait to 25 days and keeps overall demand roughly 10% below last year because industrial use has not fully recovered.
