Overview
- Environment minister Bhupender Yadav said adaptation indicators should reflect national circumstances and not put developing countries at a disadvantage.
- India wants the framework to enable transparent tracking of finance, technology transfer and capacity-building provided by developed nations.
- Negotiations at COP30 in Belem from November 10 to 21 are expected to refine Global Goal on Adaptation metrics, with a final list of 100 potential indicators under the UAE–Belem work programme on the table.
- India is also calling for progress on the Just Transition and Mitigation Work Programmes as well as on climate finance and technology implementation to speed adaptation support.
