India Presses SCO to Abandon ‘Double Standards’ on Terror at Beijing Talks

India’s NSA demanded SCO nations hold terror organisers and financiers to account to strengthen regional security ahead of the defence ministers’ conclave in Qingdao.

Overview

  • At the SCO Security Council Secretaries meeting in Beijing, NSA Ajit Doval urged member states to shun ‘double standards’ and deem all cross-border terrorism a crime against humanity.
  • He highlighted Operation Sindoor, India’s precision strike campaign launched after the Pahalgam massacre, and called on the bloc to dismantle terror ecosystems by holding perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors to account.
  • On the sidelines in Beijing, Doval held talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to review bilateral ties and invited him for the 24th round of boundary talks in India.
  • He also met Russian Security Council Deputy Secretary Aleksandr Venediktov and Chinese Vice President Han Zheng to reinforce multilateral security cooperation under China’s SCO chairmanship.
  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to travel to Qingdao from June 25–27 for the SCO defence ministers’ conclave and press for joint counter-terror measures and deeper defence collaboration.
