India Post Sets New Speed Post Tariffs From Oct. 1, Adds OTP Deliveries and GST-Separated Pricing

Officials say the revision helps cover rising costs, financing automation after the last change in 2012.

Overview

  • Effective October 1, the Department of Posts has notified a revised Inland Speed Post tariff alongside product updates.
  • Local-area rates are set at Rs 19 for up to 50 g, Rs 24 for 50–250 g, and Rs 28 for 250–500 g.
  • For distance-based mail, items up to 50 g draw a Rs 47 charge across bands, with 50–250 g minimums of Rs 59 around 200 km and Rs 77 for over 2,000 km.
  • Overall distance-based tariffs have been rationalised into a Rs 70–93 range, with GST shown separately and applicable to Speed Post items.
  • New features include OTP-based secure delivery, online booking and payment, SMS and real-time updates, and registration offered as an optional add-on.
