India Post Sets January 2026 Launch for Guaranteed 24- and 48-Hour Speed Post

The plan aims to leverage India Post’s vast network to court e-commerce partners, with a profitability target of 2029.

Overview

  • Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia announced guarantee-based delivery timelines, with 24-hour Speed Post nationwide and 48-hour guarantees across metros and state capitals starting January 2026.
  • India Post will introduce next-day parcel delivery from January, with last-mile delivery for platforms such as Amazon and Flipkart targeted by March 2026.
  • Eight new offerings span mail, parcel, and international services, including end-to-end parcel solutions, tracked international options, and a parcel last-mile product.
  • The Department of Posts resumed all categories of international postal services to the United States on October 15 following an August suspension.
  • Officials framed the upgrades as a shift from current 3–5 day deliveries toward time-bound services, part of a strategy to use a 164,999-office network to become a profit centre by 2029.
