India Post Raises Inland Speed Post Rates From October 1, Adds Paid Secure-Delivery Options

The first change since 2012 is meant to finance service upgrades in response to rising costs.

Overview

  • Revised document tariffs take effect October 1, with examples including Rs 19 for local items up to 50 g and Rs 47 for up to 50 g sent 200–2,000 km, rising to Rs 93 for 251–500 g above 2,000 km.
  • OTP-based delivery and a registration facility will be optional add-ons priced at Rs 5 per item plus GST, providing delivery only to the addressee or an authorised recipient.
  • Customers will see digital enhancements such as real-time tracking, online booking and payment, and SMS delivery notifications.
  • Students get a 10% concession on Speed Post charges and qualifying new bulk customers receive a 5% discount, with GST applied separately.
  • Following a September 1 consolidation, domestic Registered Post has been merged into Speed Post, and Telangana says OTP delivery will launch across 6,000+ post offices from October 1.
