- Speaking at the Samudra Utkarsh seminar on November 25, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said ships from friendly foreign navies are increasingly undergoing complex refits at Indian yards.
- He stated that every vessel currently under construction for the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard is being built in India.
- Flagship programs cited included the INS Vikrant aircraft carrier, Kalvari-class submarines, and stealth frigates and destroyers produced by major yards such as GRSE and MDL.
- Cochin Shipyard and L&T were highlighted for commercial and export work, from ferries and research ships to interceptor craft, including a deep‑sea mining support vessel for ISRO and the National Institute of Ocean Technology.
- Singh said several shipyards are on track to reach 100% indigenous content within this decade and urged defence majors to invest across India’s shipbuilding value chain, from design to lifecycle support.
