Overview

  • The Apex Committee and High-Level Empowered Committee have recommended deeper security and privacy reviews before implementing any satellite-based user fee collection on national highways.
  • Union Minister Nitin Gadkari confirmed in Parliament that satellite-based tolling is not operational anywhere on India’s highway network.
  • The ministry has selected eight toll plazas for corridor- and stretch-based ANPR-FASTag barrier-free trials to enable seamless multi-lane free flow tolling.
  • The initial RFP has been awarded for the Choryasi plaza on NH-8, while bids for Gharaunda (NH-44), Nemili (NH-48) and other sites on NH-248BB and the DelhiJaipur section are at various stages.
  • Under the barrier-free model, high-performance ANPR cameras and FASTag RFID readers automatically charge vehicles without requiring them to stop at toll booths.
