India, Pakistan Launch Polio Drives Oct. 12–13 to Protect Children Under Five

Regional virus detections have prompted an intensified push to close remaining immunity gaps.

Overview

  • India will run subnational operations from October 12 in selected districts, including six in Telangana, with authorities targeting roughly 1.76 million children there.
  • Hyderabad will open 2,843 vaccination centers on October 12 and expects to reach about 517,000 children over four days with extensive door-to-door follow-up.
  • Pune plans October 12–17 activities with 1,350 booths and transit-site teams to reach 312,755 children, followed by house-to-house checks.
  • Bhopal schedules 2,699 booths, 6,144 vaccinators, 118 transit points and 80 mobile teams on October 12 to vaccinate about 350,000 children.
  • Pakistan begins a nationwide campaign on October 13 aiming to vaccinate over 45 million children and provide Vitamin A, mobilizing more than 400,000 frontline workers with a focus on high-risk areas.
